Dear Friends and Volunteers,

Emad and I would like to extend our sincerest THANK YOU to all of you for volunteering your time and efforts at the Union Gospel Mission BBQ. This is a charity that Emad and I have supported personally for a long time and it felt great to be able to work alongside each of you in support of such a worthy cause.

UGM’s commitment to the less fortunate does truly impact the community and we’re so grateful to them for allowing us to participate in helping to make a difference. Aside from providing meals, our hope is to drive more awareness, compassion and action because every little bit helps.

During the course of the day your smiling faces came in contact with over 4,000 people. Your generous time and energetic spirits put out well over 6,500 plates of food, satisfying many hungry appetites. Whether behind the scenes, on the front or the back lines, water tent duty, tart delivery or food runner and tent maintenance duty, each one of you was integral in making a large scale project flawless in execution.

I had the chance to stand back a few times during that busy day, and watch everyone working together – the simple words “THANK YOU” are very heartfelt. It was fantastic to see Glowbal Collection staff working alongside customers, friends, media, family and even strangers. It really made no difference, as we all became part of a genuine TEAM sharing a common goal.

The true sense of community and energy created by all of you was both emotional and inspiring to us and we hope the experience was equally as gratifying for all of you.

We met some amazing people that day and we hope you did too! Once again, a sincere THANK YOU for your support and generosity of spirit.

Get Cracking with an Italian Kitchen Brunch Recipe

Tuscan Breakfast Sandwich

Ingredients:fresh-eggs

2 oz lamb sausage patty
1 oz caramelized onion
avocado sliced
free-range egg
tomato sliced
toasted ciabatta

Directions

  • Sear your lamb patty in a pan and finish in the oven until cooked.
  • Slice one sweet onion and cook on a stove top with a little bit of honey, salt, pepper and olive oil and sauté until onions are caramelized. This can take a little time, but don’t rush it and keep the onions moving around the pan occasionally to avoid burning.
  • Poach or scramble your egg.
  • Build your sandwich with the sausage, onions, egg, avocado and sliced tomato
  • serve with some hash potatoes or a green salad.

The Union Gospel Mission Needs 250 Volunteers to Feed 5000 at Texas BBQ

Next Tuesday, August 10, the Union Gospel Mission and THE GLOWBAL COLLECTION will be holding a Texas-style BBQ with our goal to feed 5000 people in the downtown east side at Oppenheimer Park and we need your help.

The BBQ starts bright and early at 10am and runs until 5pm. UGM has organized an area for special needs guests, as well a play park and daycare for children. The first 1200 people fed will receive ball caps and water bottles. The Vancouver Downtown East Side is preparing to launch their clean water initiative so these water bottles will help ensure that fresh clean drinking water is available on a constant basis to far more people.

To accomplish all this work efficiently and to guarantee that all 5000 people will be fed over 250 volunteers are needed. On behalf the the Union Gospel Mission we are calling out to our loyal followers and guests to help lend a hand. Emad and Shannon take their kids on a European Tour

Part vacation, part research GLOWBAL COLLECTION President Emad Yacoub took his wife and kids home to the old country… Italy.

First stop was France to sample the local fare and catch the sights. The family flew on to Rome for some much needed rest and relaxation. They continued their tour across the Italian countryside (including a stop in the incomparable city of Venice), sampling everything from the choicest prosciutto to the freshest burrata cheese, until finally arriving in Trento to visit with Shannon’s family.

“No vacation is a really just a vacation for me” said Emad. “Can you tell a photographer to stop wanting to take pictures when they see something beautiful? No! Well it the same for me. Every restaurant I visit and every bite I take inspires me and sets off a million ideas in my head. After this trip I can only say one thing… wait until you see what I open next.” With that Emad broke out into his signature laugh and clapped his hands. What ever he’s planning you can be sure he’ll put his whole heart into it, just like he has with every restaurant in the collection.

PS A truly relaxing and adventurous vacation was had by all.

This past Thursday, July 22nd, glowbal grill General Manager Michael Moore and his staff hosted a party to thank the Yaletown neighbourhood businesses for all their support.

Why have a party? “It has been about six months since the grand re-opening of glowbal grill so my team and I thought it was time to throw a party and thank our friends and neighbours” said Michael. ‘”Afterglow is the perfect venue for something like this, in fact it was built exactly for events like this.”

Beaming like a proud new father, Michael and his staff were excited to host friends from Beautymark, Lola Home and Apparel, L’Atelier and many more. “Yaletown is a really close community! We can’t really do what we do without supporting each other. It is this neighbourhood vibe that makes Yaletown such a destination spot.” We couldn’t agree more Michael.
